ABOUT AWKWARDCHOCO

Creativity Takes Courage.

-Henry Matisse

When I was three years old, my mother gave me a sketchpad and crayons. She could see how much I enjoyed drawing. My drawings have almost always been of people and faces. In the 4th grade, I began attending a school of the arts, and I have only grown as an artist over time.

At 12 years old, I told my mother I would write a book. As little girls, my sister and I played with dolls and created our own world using them. These stories were the inspiration for my book, Awkward. After two years of writing, I published it, accomplishing such a big goal I’ve had since I was young.

In the years that followed, I’ve traveled with my family, soaking in more inspiration for my art and understanding other people’s perspectives. Through my lens, I see the different layers of people, the complicated conditions that put them there, and their struggles to get out of them. This is what my art represents - this is my new goal: to show others a different side of themselves and the people around them.

Recently, I’ve taken this goal to YouTube, creating content that reflects my perspective of the world and how I would like to influence it. Through video essays, I unpack socio-political themes through current events, drama, and news to deradicalize and teach people about how social conditioning shapes their world. I've been lucky enough to garner nearly 7,000 subscribers and hope to continue growing my platform. I’m constantly learning and encouraging others to do the same.

My journey is far from over - I still have far too many goals to accomplish, but hopefully you'll join me.
